The castle in Inowłódz was one of nearly fifty stone strongholds that were built during the life and reign of Casimir the Great. The defensive structure built in the years 1356-1366 was to serve as a military point and the local seat of royal power. Remains have survived to the present day in the form of the perimeter of the outer walls, fragments of the interior divisions and the foundations of the octagonal tower.
